Snoop Dogg was harassed by Bloods while filming ‘Training Day’
Snoop Dogg’s Crip ties got him unwanted attention from the Bloods during filming training dayaccording to Spice 1.
The gangsta rap pioneer recently sat down for an interview with The art of dialoguewhere he recalled a group of Bloods – the Crips’ rival gang – harassing Tha Doggfather on the set of the 2001 film.
Spice 1 said he was alerted by gang members throwing bottles at Snoop’s movie trailer, but after going to set he was able to stop the situation from escalating further .
“I’m at LA OG Crip, my homie hit me and he said, ‘Spice, they’re in Snoop’s trailer. It’s blood niggas out there throwing bottles at Snoop’s trailer,” he recalled. “He didn’t say Blood n-ggas because, you know, he’s not going to say that, but that’s what he told me.
“I’m like, ‘Oh!’ In so many words, he was like, ‘Go out there and try to calm these niggas down. They’ll listen to you. And I’m thinking in the back of my head like, ‘Man, these niggas ain’t gonna listen to me. These niggas don’t know me.’ But since the OG n-gga said go over there and talk to them.
When Spice 1 appeared at training day shoot, his mere presence was enough to calm the Bloods down and snuff out their attack on Snoop.
“So I’m going over there. I see them and they look at me and they’re like ‘Damn it, Blood! It looks like Spice 1, Blood! ” he continued. “I’m like, ‘It’s me, nigga! You got no weed? What’s going on?’
“I was like, ‘Man, they say you’re all throwing bottles at Snoop’s trailer and stuff. The motherfuckers are about to call the police. We have to get the hell out of here because they might be coming. And they were like, ‘OK, cool. Let’s bounce the shit out of here. N-ggas don’t try to see the [police] In any event.”
He added, “So we bounced around, walked around the corner and started smoking weed, waiting for the po-pos to smash. They crossed over and left. I dapped niggas and I I bounced back and went to Snoop’s trailer and started cutting it with him for a minute, smoking weed or whatever I don’t think he knew why I was there.
Snoop Dogg had a supporting role in training day, alongside Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke as a wheelchair-bound drug dealer named Blue. Dr. Dre and Macy Gray also made appearances in the Antoine Fuqua-directed film, which grossed $104 million at the box office in its opening weekend.
Washington’s performance as twisted LAPD narcotics detective Alonzo Harris won him his first Best Actor award at the 2002 Oscars, while Hawke won Best Supporting Actor for his role as a rookie cop. Jake Hoyt the same year.
Snoop has only added to his acting resume since then, having starred in films such as Starsky and Hutch, Soul plane and Mac and Devin go to high school alongside Wiz Khalifa. Most recently, he appeared alongside Jamie Foxx in the Netflix movie Vampire Hunter day shift.
His burgeoning Hollywood career, however, did not hamper his musical output. In February, the DO-Double-G released their 19th studio album, Bac on death rowwho has collaborated with Nas, TI, The Game, DaBaby, the late Nate Dogg and many more.
That same month, Snoop delivered on the promise of the album’s title by becoming the new owner of Death Row Records, the famed West Coast rap label whose legacy he helped build in the ’90s alongside Dr. Dre and 2Pac.
Nostalgia seems to be the motive for Snoop’s creative plans in 2022, as he’s been spotted in the studio with Dre and Eminem in recent weeks.
“We’re up to a little something,” Snoop said HEY in August. “I don’t want to talk too much about it, but we’re back together. It’s been 30 years since we last worked on a record, and we’re doing something, we’re working on something.
