NCSD partners with Oftedal Construction and Work Force Regional Training Center
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – The Natrona County School District has partnered with the Regional Workforce Training Center and Oftedal Construction to provide students with a special opportunity. Students had the privilege of operating heavy machinery, drones and welding during the heavy civil construction training day.
Most of the students who attended the event were from the Pathways Innovation Center. This was also the case with the instructors who taught these students how to operate all the parts of the heavy machinery.
The machines were donated for the day by Oftedal Construction Company. Each student could choose what they wanted to run, and most were able to run every machine at any given time of the day. Some of these big machines included excavators, bulldozers, backhoes and graders.
“Today we were able to operate heavy equipment like bulldozers and excavators. I haven’t tried the semi-trailer but will try after that. We also have a welding shop there,” said Pathway student Chase Handeland.
NCSD board members Dave Applegate and Dana Howie were also present at the event. Administrator Applegate thanked those in Casper who were involved and partnered with the school district. He also made sure to recognize the importance of not only preparing students for college, but also preparing them for the job market.
“We know we have a skilled labor crisis that we need to address and opportunities like this offer our students a chance to participate in an economy that is ready to pay them well and keep them here at home. them in Wyoming,” said Rob Hill, who is a professor of construction at the Pathways Innovation Center.
