Naval Training and Diving Center welcomes new chef
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WMBB) – The Naval Training and Diving Center held a change of command ceremony to welcome its new commanding officer Troy Lawson.
“I started here in 1991 as a student,” Lawson said. “Coming back here in command of the unit is exceptional and a dream come true.”
Commander Lawson replaces Commander Erich Frandrup.
“My predecessor Erich did an incredible job and my plan is to build on what he put in place and continue to train the greatest divers in the world,” Lawson said.
Frandrup trained around 2,500 students during his two years at the diving school.
Navy officials applauded him for his diligence in guiding sailors through the pandemic.
They had to make many adjustments to keep learning.
“Installing mechanisms around the control to open our doors with our feet – minimizing the spread of the virus through high-touch doorknobs,” Frandrup said.
Frandrup’s next assignment is in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon.
He thanks the Panama City community for their kindness while serving his duties here.
