Hackers announce plans for alternate training site for April

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that the club will use three different facilities as the club’s alternate training site in the city of Pittsburgh during the month of April. The announcement was made by general manager Ben Cherington.

Each day throughout April, members of the alternate training site will use a locker room at Heinz Field to serve as their home clubhouse.

The group will practice at PNC Park or travel to play against other teams at alternate training sites in Columbus and Toledo, Ohio and Louisville, Kentucky on days the Pirates are not playing at PNC Park.

When the Pirates play matches at PNC Park during the month of April, members of the alternate training site will have training sessions taking place at Charles. L. Cost Field on the University of Pittsburgh campus. There will be no alternate practice site games taking place in Pittsburgh in April.

“The Pirates organization is extremely grateful to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh for allowing our players and staff to use their first-class facilities for the first month of the season,” said Cherington. “It’s a great example of the unique bond each of the pro teams and Pitt share with each other and part of what makes Pittsburgh such a special place.”
