Elyria’s Elevation Training Center is soliciting donations for the distribution of school supplies

Elevation Training Center is bigger than basketball.

Elevation Training Center is a skill development gym located at 6892 Lake Ave., Elyria.

“I provide personal training and performance enhancement for all grade levels, from kindergarten to college level athletes,” said Sharod Brown, Head Coach and CEO. “We are focused on developing all skills for basketball to help them get to the next level and achieve any other goals they may set for themselves personally.”

The organization hopes to donate 100 book bags filled with school supplies to young people in Lorain County before the fall.

Brown said he was looking for community support.

“We accept used book bags and new school supplies,” he said. “Our goal is to help as many families and students as possible, and that happens when the community comes together.”

Materials such as book bags, notebooks, pencils, pens and highlighters, rulers and pencil cases are needed.

Donations of book bags or school supplies will be accepted through July 31, Brown said.

Families can receive a bag of books while supplies last at the August 7 drive-thru.

Brown said his passion for youth extends beyond sports.

“Our main focus in terms of training is basketball, but we do a lot more than that,” he said. “We want to have an even greater impact on the families and communities we serve.”

In November, ETC held a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway that benefited over 30 local families.

“Giving back is one of our top priorities and the reason we continue to host basketball practices, free clinics and other initiatives,” Brown said.

ETC will hold its next free basketball clinic for youth in grades 2-6 on June 18.
