PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii – Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) San Diego Training Site Hawaii obtained six officers and seven enlisted in 12 separate operational units who attended its Key Management Infrastructure (KMI) Operating Account Manager (KOAM ), July 30.

“The KOAM course is the most requested course our training site offers in Hawaii, and we never have an empty seat,” said the director of the IWTC San Diego training site in Hawaii. “The instructions provided address critical Navy Department training needs for all of our Hawaii-based ships, submarines, U.S. Marines, and U.S. Coast Guardsmen. In addition to our five mandatory COIs [courses of instruction], we regularly receive multiple requests from the fleet for special calls; during this fiscal year, we held four special KOAM meetings. »

The KOAM course students were also impressed with their learning experience and eager to make a positive impact on the fleet.

“A program as robust and critical as KMI requires dedicated and targeted training. This course has not only instilled the skills necessary to be a successful KOAM, but I am ready and eager to return to the role of KOAM at my command,” remarked a student of the course.

KOAM is a functional “F” school course, which teaches students how to successfully administer and implement Department of the Navy KMI and Communications Security (COMSEC) programs to ensure secure and reliable communications across the fleet.

Highlighting the impact of the course, another student said, “The importance of operating effectively with secure communications cannot be overstated. The KOAM course helped me learn the different roles and actions that I will be responsible for, as well as introduce me to the equipment operations needed to ensure good communication security in the fleet.

A Senior KOAM Petty Officer Training Specialist said, “The biggest advantage of our course is the experienced instructors, who are well versed in classroom communications security. As this is an operator-only course, having this skill helps dispel student uncertainty about the politics associated with being a manager. »

IWTC San Diego Training Site Hawaii offers 12 information technology training courses and is one of four training sites overseen by IWTC San Diego.
