The ASC is a not-for-profit organization that operates a snow sports facility that provides alpine, snowboard, nordic and biathlon programs, clinics, competitions, recreational activities and a nordic center to northern communities in California.
Position: Cross Country and Biathlon Head Coach

Function: Under the direction of the Nordic Program Director (DP), performs the role of Head Coach for Cross Country and Biathlon athletes (collectively Nordic Athletes) in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Nordic Program and the Statement of CSA mission.
Plan, execute and coach winter on-snow and summer on-land training sessions for cross-country and biathlon teams. Ensure that Cross Country and Biathlon athletes function as much as possible as one cohesive team under the direction of the Nordic Program Director.
Responsible for delivering the program and managing the technical development and skill progression of predominantly junior Nordic athletes. Develop and manage individual athlete training plans to achieve each athlete’s goals from development to elite level, including biathlon-specific athletes in unison with XC athletes
Responsible for the development and execution of the biathlon and range program. Organize, schedule and coach biathlon-specific training on the shooting range. Bringing the expertise of the Biathlon range to Biathlon competitions
Under the direction of the Nordic PD, coach during regional and national competition trips and training camps. Assist in the running of Nordic competitions at CSA. Assume a leadership role in the USSS, FWN, USBA and CNISSF.
Work with the Nordic PD to create overall communications for the team and CSA that includes implementing strategies for athlete recruitment and retention. Effectively manage timely daily communication of practice schedules, team activities to athletes and parents to ensure successful participation.
Under Nordic PD guidelines, coaching functions extend to the mentoring assistant and volunteer coaching staff throughout the Nordic program to ensure continuity of entry level ASC development progression, development programs, CNISSF school teams, Alder Creek Middle School program at the elite level.
Manage and maintain Nordic program equipment including biathlon specific equipment which includes gun maintenance, ammunition inventory. Ensure that all range and firearms policies and procedures and state and local firearms laws are strictly adhered to.
Adhere to and ensure CSA policies, procedures, risk management and operational procedures are up to date and followed by all programs and participants.
To create a sports environment that welcomes and nurtures athletes of all levels and teaches valuable life lessons that include work ethic, discipline, resilience, teamwork, overcoming adversity, establishing goals and leadership.
Additional responsibilities and tasks may be assigned from time to time by your supervisor or CSA management. These duties include, but are not limited to, day-to-day operations, teaching cross-country lessons and issuing cross-country rentals, public relations, fundraising staffing, administration, recruiting efforts, training center event support, winter and summer maintenance, facility upgrades, general operations and special projects.
Proven customer service skills working with athletes and families of all ages.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment within a team and be productive without supervision. Proven organizational, communication and writing skills, computer proficiency.
Proven skills and proficiency in the use of hand tools and equipment as required.
Ability to work safely in winter weather and on all snowy surfaces both on and off skis/snowboard. Ability to perform tasks that may require lifting up to 50 lbs on and off snow.
USSS/USBA certifications required
Successful completion of company and state employment requirements.
