Covid outbreak at cop training site
More than 180 people at a police training center in Ratchaburi have tested positive for Covid-19, in a major new cluster of infections. Most of those infected are students.
The Provincial Police Region 7 Training Center confirmed the infections via a Facebook post yesterday, saying 182 of the center’s 592 people have been infected. Of those infected, 179 are students and three are cooks while no trainers were found to be infected.
The center conducted a random test on students using rapid antigen test kits on Thursday and found 39 people were infected, the center said. The center then tested everyone at the center – 561 students, 14 cooks and 17 trainers – using the standard RT-PCR Covid-19 testing method on Friday and Saturday.
In collaboration with local health authorities, the center has placed those who tested negative for the virus in quarantine, as repeated tests for Covid-19 will be carried out.
The cause of the infections is also under investigation.
The surrounding communities have been informed of the infections at the center and asked to reinforce their measures to prevent Covid-19.
Of those infected, only eight students required hospitalization while the rest were isolated at a nearby health center, the training center said.
In related news, 156 students and eight teachers have tested positive for Covid-19 in Nakhon Ratchasima since Nov. 1, when 79% of 1,726 schools in 32 districts across the province resumed on-site learning, said said Waraphon Bunchiam, deputy head of the province’s education office. .
Dr Sombat Watthana, the province’s deputy director of health, said Nakhon Ratchasima recorded 79 new Covid-19 infections yesterday, bringing the cumulative number of infections in the current Covid-19 wave of the province to 32,107. province.
Of these, 1,588 patients are still receiving treatment while 250 people have died from Covid-19 and the rest have recovered from the infection, the doctor said.
