Bigelow seeks Columbia College to have a CAL fire training center

Sonora, CA – Assemblyman Frank Bigelow would like to see two Northern California communities house new CAL Fire Training Centers.

During an interview to air this weekend on Mother Lode Views, Bigelow says he’s asking for money for training facilities at Lake Tahoe and Columbia College.

If approved, he says it would create comprehensive training centers for firefighters seeking educational credits.

Bigelow said, “Both of these sites seem suited for this type of opportunity, so I went in and applied through the budget committee.”

Adding: “By setting up training centers we would be able to train more people and go to work in our local communities as firefighters.”

The proposal would still have to go through various stages of the legislative process to come to fruition.

The concept is one of the topics Bigelow will talk about on the 30-minute show where he will review the legislation he is presenting this session.

He will also talk about the current state of the regional economy, the upcoming fire season, and his decision not to seek re-election this year (but to try to get back in 2024), among several other topics.
